Thyagaraja Aradhana
Thyagaraja Aradhana is a musical tribute to one of the finest composers of Indian Carnatic classical music, Saint Shri. Thyagaraja. He is a 19th century composer and his works are considered as treasured master pieces. The Aradhana is observed on Pushya Bahula Panchami day when the saint attained Jeeva samadhi in Tiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu, India. To commemorate this event, we conduct Aradhana at the beginning of every year in Rugby. Group singing of the 5 magnum opus compositions which are termed as “Pancharatnas” meaning 5 jewels are performed by eminent musicians with percussion and string ensemble. It also has select few solo renditions by children and adults where the other compositions of Shri. Thyagaraja are performed. The Sampradaya kritis comprising Shri Ganapathini, Gurulekha, Chethulara and Geetharthamu are performed as part of the group rendition.
May Mahotsavam
Mahotsavam means carnival and this event is a musical carnival happening in May and hence derives the name “May Mahotsavam”. It is a nice way to welcome the more cheery spring and summer! The event started a few years ago with the purpose of taking the Indian Classical music form to a wider community and to allow people to appreciate the art form as music is a universal language, and it bridges different cultures. The morning session includes performance from and thus serving children a platform to showcase their musical talents. The afternoon session includes performance from professional performing artists in and around the UK. These performances include vocal, instrumental, percussion ensemble, dance presentations and lecture demonstrations focussing on the various aspects of classical music.
